I am often asked this Question, How is Coaching different from counseling? I can truly say there is a distinct difference between Coaching and Counseling. Because of 20 years experience as a counselor and now three years as a Professional Coach I can define the difference for you.

I will give you the most simplistic answer first:

Coaching moves to ones passion in life.

Counseling navigates to the pain in a person’s life.

Coaching is not counseling or therapy, which goes into depth about various issues that deal with ones past life. Coaching is more action oriented and focuses primarily on the present and future. A Coach allows you to determine your own “answers” while guiding you (in my case) in a biblical foundation.

As a coach I would:

  • Encourage you to set goals that you truly want.
  • Ask you to do more than you may have done on your own.
  • Help you focus better in order to produce results more quickly.
  • Provide you with the tools, support and structure to accomplish more.
